Data Security & Encryption |
Mobile computers are quickly emerging as the industry standard for increasing user productivity. However, the portable nature of these devices increases the possibility of loss or theft. Consequent exposure of sensitive data can result in financial loss, legal ramifications, and brand damage. many users have still to realise the potential hazards they could face if their data is placed in the wrong hands. Data is a word we have become used to hearing over the past decade as businesses and public sector organisations have moved towards a “central data base”. We are used to being told during a phone call or order we are placing that an organisation we are dealing with would like to “update their records”. Over recent years we are now moving towards paperless office environments and routinely scan documents and ID. The quality and usability of the data we are creating is increasing. |
| |
Why use it? |
| As business or personal users we all have a responsibility to protect ourselves and our clients from our created data being used against our wishes and for purposes unintended. |

| |
Possible consequenses: |
x |
Boot a PC using an external medium like a CD or USB memory stick and access all the saved data without activating the operating system’s access control |
x |
Find confidential documents and information and either use it themselves or sell it to a third party |
x |
Use the PC or data medium to import undesirable data and sneak in harmful programs like Trojans and viruses that then compromise system stability |
|
How do we do it? |
The software installed ensures no unauthorized user may access the device and read data or use the device as a tool to enter the company network. If a device falls into unauthorized hands, the data is securely protected even if the hard disk is removed. Secure protection is provided by means of complete encryption of the entire hard disk and a user authentication procedure that runs before the operating system boots. Through implementation of this security you can be assured that should your IT equipment be lost or stolen you are protected and have rendered the contents of your machine useless. |
